The career of Candid Films Founder, Jo Austin, began in television. As a key member of the production team for global hit Long Way Round with Ewan Gregor and Charley Boorman, Jo went on to work on numerous other doco/ factual formats before producing and directing two of Candid Films' own original multi-episode series for Nat Geo, which are now streaming on Netflix and Amazon Prime.

We have combined a keen passion for real-life storytelling with the experience of working with talented Directors and actors through our commercial work, leading to short film projects. Our first short film, Two Bites, premiered at the prestigious Academy Accredited Flickerfest Film Festival in 2017. In turn, this has opened up new opportunities for features, we now have two based-on-true story feature length drama's in development.

Candid's debut feature documentary, Undone, about professional surfer Laura Enever's transition from WSL Tour to Big Wave surfing,  reached the top 10 global iTunes movie chart alongside major Hollywood productions when it was premiered in May 2020. Covid-19 meant our March/ April cinema release was cancelled, but a strong digital campaign around the online launch secured the films ultimate success.

Brands and Long Form Entertainment

Undone was an entirely brand-funded film, we strongly believe that brands should be engaging in long form entertainment because it provides authentic storytelling, access to talent and huge audience reach, not to mention positive PR opportunities. In Hyundai's case, the film firmly placed them as a surf brand in an aspirational market they had been seeking to penetrate for a while, and the chance to work directly with Laura, a surf industry influencer with over half a million followers.

A Model

The Undone film premiere on 8th March 2020, at the Hayden Orpheum, Sydney.

Let's do something amazing..
